Today, we held our first bilingual reading day at Chicot, and it was wonderful! A huge thank you to the parents and volunteers who read in both English and Spanish. The Chicot Flu clinic is will be next Thursday, October 16th. Consent forms for the school flu shot have been sent home in your child’s folder. Please sign and return both forms (LRSD + ADH) to the nurse As Soon As Possible so your child can receive their shot at school. 💉🍂

Today was a special day for Chicot scholars! Award-winning cartoonist and illustrator Shannon Wright visited our school! Every student got to hear her speak about her inspiration, how long it takes to make a book, and even how she manages frustration. Over 100 students got to meet her and get their books signed, but that wasn't all. She even met with the art club students to share her process and some of her techniques.
If you didn't get a chance to meet her or purchase one of her books, there will be two more chances. This evening, grown-ups can head to Pyramid Books from 5-7 pm for a viewing of the gallery of Wright’s stunning illustrations. For some fun with the kids, head on over to The Children's Library on Sunday, Oct. 5, for Little Readers Rock. Ms. Wright will read from her books, and the Junior League of Little Rock will provide fun crafts!

Hello Chicot Elementary families! Thank you to everyone who participated in the Chicot Elementary School Bank Grand Opening! 🎉 Our student leaders did a fantastic job as tellers. If your child does not yet have a Penny Pocket savings account, you can open one by contacting Mrs. Smith, Mrs. O, or visiting First Security Bank—just let them know your child attends Chicot Elementary. 💰 Remember, deposits will be made at the school bank every 2nd Tuesday of the month. The next deposit date is October 14, 2025.

🎭 Last week, our 3rd and 4th grade scholars enjoyed “Arkansas Adventures,” an original production by LRSD's Parkview High School featuring stories about Arkansas’s only dinosaur discovery, a Quapaw folk tale, the founding of Little Rock, and the lives of inspiring Arkansans. Thanks to Parkview for sharing your talent and creativity. In a few short years, our scholars could be future Parkview Patriots performing at Chicot!🐾🐆

Good Afternoon Families,
We’ve had a wonderful start to the school year! While it may seem early, open enrollment is just around the corner. In addition to our regular offerings and pending state approval, LRSD is launching a Dual Immersion Program at Chicot for the 2026–2027 school year, and we’d love your feedback.
Key Points:
This program will launch with the kindergarten class of 2026 having a limited number of kindergarten seats available.
A two-way model will be an option for both English- and Spanish-speaking scholars, with instruction in both languages. Scholars in this program would continue this approach from kindergarten - 5th grade.
The goal is to help students become bilingual, biliterate, and confident thinkers. Scholars in this program would continue this approach from kindergarten - 5th grade.
Adding a Dual Immersion Program would not change our existing offerings—it would simply provide an additional opportunity for limited number of families and their scholars.

LRSD joined First Security Bank, students, staff, families, and community members to celebrate the ribbon-cutting for the Bank at Chicot Elementary. It’s the fifth LRSD school to benefit from this partnership, with the program offering hands-on financial literacy lessons, career exploration, and the opportunity for students to serve as tellers - helping prepare them for future success.
